Returning to School – Reflections from our Year 2 Students

“I have enjoyed coming back to School because during the holidays I missed my friends and the fun School work. I was very excited about starting Year 2 because I started the violin and I made a new friend. Her name is Michelle (she is a new girl in our class).” Amelie Favaloro

“The best thing about starting School in Year 2 was when I got to see all my friends again and learning new things along the way. We get to play and learn all day. I love School.” Genevieve Le

“The best two subjects this year are violin and homework. I even got extra homework from Mrs Iacuone.” Tara Pattison

“My favourite thing to do in Year 2 is play the violin and I also love doing Maths and Writing.” Frankie Lasky

Communication with School

Families are warmly encouraged to communicate with School personnel regarding any questions or concerns pertaining to your daughter(s). Please be aware that no question is too small.

Also, we advise families to always communicate with us when a matter arises and not to wait for the gazetted Parent Teacher Interview dates. Matters are more effectively dealt with at the time they arise.

Junior School New Email Address

Please note the email address juniorschool@stcatherines.net.au  is now available for parents to email absentees and to relay any student information or messages. This email will be accessed by the Junior School office and will replace barbreck@stcatherines.net.au.

Please note emails containing urgent information, such as a change of after School or pick up arrangements, please contact the Barbreck Office (9828 3062).  Teachers rarely have an opportunity to read emails during the day and especially any which arrive late in the School day.

Teachers may be contacted by using the address containing their first initial and surname: eg msmith@stcatherines.net.au

The student Record Book is a very useful means of conveying information to School. Students are required to bring them to School each day and to take them home each night.

Organisational Details

We hope the following details outline some useful information for all Junior School families.

Absence from School – Absentee Line 9828 3021

When a student is absent from School, parents are asked to call the Absentee Line 9828 3021 and leave a recorded message. Alternatively you can email absentees on juniorschool@stcatherines.net.au.

Please do not leave the message elsewhere in the School or on another phone line. Absences are recorded in the official School attendance records by 9.00am. This is important in order to ensure the School is aware of the absence.

Class teachers appreciate emailed advice as well, but importantly the Student Absentee Line is the central information collection point.

The Absentee Line and Barbreck email address is accessed and information noted by Mrs Sharon Brinkworth or in her absence Mrs Mary Poulos early each morning.

Students Attendance Rolls

The school bell rings at 8.30am with students able to access classrooms from 8.10am.

In respect of the fact that many of our families are involved in drop off for other siblings at other schools and varying traffic conditions, there is a flexible 10 minute timeframe whereby 8.40am is acceptable as the latest arrival time.

Students arriving after 8.40am must report to the office and “Sign in” for the purposes of accuracy in attendance registers and also security.  This is extremely vital or classrooms attendance rolls cannot be accurate.  Class teachers send attendance records to the office a t 8.45am.

Lunch Orders

A reminder that lunch orders must be placed online only at www.flexischools.com.au.

Please note:

  • Lunch orders must be placed before 9.00am on the day
  • Orders can be placed up to two weeks in advance

Medications Sent to School with Students

If you require any medication (eg antibiotics, eyedrops, analgesia etc) to be administered at School to your daughter periodically, for any reason, you must provide the medication in its original packaging. It must be labelled with your daughter’s name and an accompanying letter detailing the dose(s) time(s), frequency and reason for medication, together with your signed authority for St Catherine’s Junior School Reception staff to administer it to your daughter.

It is not acceptable to send unlabelled, loose medication to School with students, relying on their conveying the message to staff as to when, what, why and how they should take the medication.

Medications will not be given to students unless the aforementioned conditions are complied with. Seeking clarification from parents who have not provided the correct instructions and authority may cause a delay in your daughter receiving the medication when requested.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
