The Year 8 girls have settled in smoothly to the new School year. They are organised and have quickly developed a routine encompassing their academic, sporting and co-curricular pursuits.

This year we welcome two new girls; Annabelle Green and Xinyu (Jessie) Lai. Both girls are settling well and establishing a core group of friends. We also welcome Ms Olivia Cher as a new member of staff and the 8BB Form Teacher. Along with Ms Cher we have Mr Collins 8HK, Mrs Klancic 8DS and Mr Hicks 8LT as Form teachers in 2018.

This year in our Form/Level sessions, we will focus on the Emotional Intelligence Program developed by Swinburne University. Students will work with their Form teachers in small groups as well as individually, to develop and refine their emotional intelligence.

Over the holidays we had numerous Year 8 students achieve great success across a broad range of pursuits.

Jeneath Wong attained wonderful success in a Golf Tournament in Adelaide. Jeneath competed into the 2017 Pacific School Games – Golf Girls Gross. Jeneath placed first out of 36 girls and is the youngest girl ever to win this competition. Olivia Nigido-Scott was selected into the Victoria Junior Track and Field Championships in the events: Shot Put, Hammer, Discus and Javelin. Olivia has also qualified for the Australian Junior Nationals in Hammer. We wish Olivia all the very best in her upcoming competitions on Friday 23 February. Congratulations also to Kayla Jackson on her selection into the National Indigenous Netball Team. The competition will take place in April.

GSV Sport is underway and the girls have been training for Tennis, Softball, Swimming and Diving. As well as GSV competition there will also be House Cross Country.

As a part of the Year 8 Geography curriculum, all girls will attend an excursion to St Kilda Beach which is always a fun and exciting component of the Term 1 course.

We look forward to a busy Term ahead.
