“This is an inspiring faculty who collaborate to devise and deliver innovative lessons and share their different approaches to texts and issues.”

We have commenced 2018 with much activity in the English Faculty. My role as Head of Faculty is made much easier by the talented team of teachers that I work with. Each teacher brings their own specialist approach to the teaching of English, Literature and EAL. It is always a pleasure for me to work with such a committed and professional team of teachers.

I welcome to our team for 2018, new teachers Mr Darren Plunkett who teaches EAL and English and Miss Louise Adams who teaches English. I am also pleased to see Mr Craig Roberts and Mr Robert Harrod join the team to take on some ELS and EAL classes.

We have a lot planned for 2018 with new texts, curriculum initiatives and excursions for the students. Our central goal is to bring out the very best in every student, in every class. Making them feel engaged and confident in their learning throughout the year. Our pedagogical focus for 2018 is continuing to develop explicit learning intentions that translate into high expectations and clarity about what students are expected to learn and are able to do. Our focus is on assessment for learning through success criteria, explicit teaching of skills and content, personalised learning and timely feedback.

I am very lucky to work with such an exemplary team of teachers and it is always a pleasure seeing the wonderful work that they implement with all their students. This approach translates into a progressive learning approach in every Year level allowing students to perform at their very best on the final Year 12 exam. The VCE results for this Faculty are very strong and are a testament to the commitment of all the teachers, at every Year level.

The Year 12 comments at the end of their final year of School to their English teachers convey the impact of their learning better than I ever could.

“Thank you for transforming my skills and inspiring me in class.”

“Thank you for making these classes constantly engaging and enjoyable.”

“Connecting through the reading and writing we did gave me confidence in my own writing, and then in myself as an individual.”

I look forward once again to working with this amazing group of teachers in 2018!

Ms Ceri Lloyd, Head of English
