Rep Netball Superstars

Congratulations to Jasmine Glass (Year 7) and Kayla Jackson (Year 7) who represented Katherine, Northern Territory in the Indigenous Netball Competition in Darwin over the weekend. In the combined U15 and U17 competition they reached the semi-finals and placed third overall. Despite the heat (and humidity) both girls played exceptionally well. This was a great honour for the girls to represent their home town in the competition and we congratulate them on their effort and achievement!

Commonwealth Games ‘Team Australia’ Club Night 1.0 Recap

Our first St Catherine’s Aquatic ‘Team Australia’ Commonwealth Games Club Night Series was fantastic success!

Our squad swimmers were joined by 15 Learn To Swim (LTS) swimmers for an evening of racing and learning. The LTS swimmers were open to the competitive environment and embraced the friendly races with huge enthusiasm. Helping them to feel comfortable, were the squad swimmers who were arranged as a ‘buddy’ to their LTS friend. The buddy pairs selected their swims for the evening, and filling out entry cards.

Each event offered a different point tally, with longer swims earning a higher point score. Swimmers were able to choose to swim one event or every event.

St Catherine’s Aquatic Club swimmers were also chasing existing Club Night records, as well as having the chance to establish new records. Six new official STCA Club Night Records were set on night 1.0 – all by Portia Gowrie (Year 4).

One of the highlights of the squad program and the Sports and Aquatic Centre, is that we combine a mixture of year levels and abilities, however every swimmer is valued and cared for. Younger swimmers are provided the opportunity to meet and become friends with the senior swimmers and learn from their more mature peers.

I would like to pass on my thanks – we had an excellent group of helpers on the night, from the parent timekeepers, to the coaching team, to all the work the senior buddies did – the night wouldn’t have run without your support!

We are much looking forward to Friday’s Club Night 2.0! Prizes on offer for top point scorers!
