Barbreck House Cross Country

The Barbreck House Cross Country was held at a beautiful, sunny Kooyong Park on Friday 17 March. The day saw Langley Templeton take out the win, after a very even team effort. A big congratulations to all students who gave everything for their Houses.

Barbreck is now looking forward to the District Cross Country on Monday 22 May in Term 2.

On Thursday 16 March, Barbreck’s Prep to Year 6 girls held a team meeting at recess to foster team spirit ahead of the House Cross Country. We captured the girls immersing themselves in team spirit below in the following videos and photos.

Metro South All Junior Selection Trials

With the upcoming All Junior Finals in April, the first step is for each Metro region to select their fastest 10 swimmers per age, per event, to compete at the Metro All Junior Semi-Finals.

For the All Junior Selection trials, Melbourne is divided into four metro areas, with St Catherine’s Aquatic Inc. being part of the Metro South region.

Metro South held their selection trials on Sunday 5 March at MSAC, and St Catherine’s arrived with a solid team consisting of Chloe Barber, Elodie Ferrali, Portia Gowrie, Emma Gregory, Zara Krause, Sarah Marriott, Chloe Nevins, Brydie Read and Olivia Barr.

The girls demonstrated great team spirit, with lots of supporting and cheering throughout the day. Some of our team had raced before, other were racing for the very first time. Regardless of previous experience, all swimmers took the day of competing in their stride.

Three of our St Catherine’s Aquatic swimmers qualified for the Metro All Junior Semifinals Elodie Ferrali, Chloe Nevins and Portia Gowrie.

  • Elodie qualified 13 Year Age Group
    • 4th – Girls 50 Metre Backstroke
    • 10th – Girls 50 Metre Freestyle

Chloe qualified 11 Year Age Group:

  • 7th – 50 Metre Backstroke
  • 10th – 50 Metre Breastroke
  • 9th – 50 Metre Freestyle
  • Portia qualified 9 Year Age Group:
  • 1st – 50 Metre Butterfly
  • 7th – 50 Metre Backstroke
  • 3rd – 50 Metre Breastroke
  • 1st – 50 Metre Freestyle

The girls have been training very well, and have set their sights on some fast racing times on 1 April and all competitors have returned to the training pool with fantastic focus.

A special mention to our youngest competitor, Olivia Barr who is only 7 years old, and part of the St Catherine’s Learn to Swim program. In my years of being around swimming, I have never seen a swimmer as young as Olivia demonstrate such composure and maturity during the whole experience!

Yours in Swimming,

Mark Cooper
Head Swim Coach

Note: With only two more weeks of swimming left for Term 1, the mind turns towards the Easter Holiday Program which runs from Monday 3 April – Friday 7 April. Squad swimmers and the Learn To Swim program will operate from 9.00am -11.00am each morning, with each lesson 30 minutes in duration. Check your emails soon!
