Old Girl Rowers selected to represent Victoria

Congratulations to past students Georgie Gleeson (’16) and Adelaide Cester (’16) who have been selected to represent Victoria in the U21 Women’s VIII that will compete in the interstate regatta at the Australian Rowing Championships. This crew will be coached by our current St Catherine’s Junior Rowing Coordinator and Physical Education Teacher, Miss Brigette Carlile. We wish this crew all the best!

Congratulations also to current students Lucy Campbell and Lucy Gray for their efforts over the weekend. The girls took out third place in the Silver Fleet of Division 1 at Girl Sail.  The girls have shared with us a recap of their experience below.

2017 Girl Sail regatta

On Saturday 11 March, Lucy Campbell and Lucy Gray (2xLu) set off to the Girl Sail event at Mt Eliza. We competed in Division 1 and were surprised to finish the first race placing second. We quickly prepared for the next race and were amazed to place first, but unfortunately, we came out with an OCS (on course side) and a penalty. For the final race of the morning we placed third. This left us in the Silver Fleet for the finals, missing the Gold Fleet by only one point!

After having a break and meeting our guest speaker, Lisa Darmanin (a Silver medallist at the 2016 Rio Olympics) who was very inspiring, we went out for the finals. In the first of two races, we came out in fourth place. As we were getting ready for the next race, unfortunately, we capsized. We quickly pulled the boat back up in less than a minute and made it just in time for the start. In that race, we were thrilled to place third.

Overall, we took out third place in the Silver Fleet of Division 1. It was an amazing day and we hope that next year we will be joined by more St Catherine’s girls.
