Information Evening 16 February

Last night’s Information Evening, held initially in Year level classrooms and then in the a’Beckett Hall provided opportunities for Year level staff to outline specific program and organisational details about each class in 2017. The session in the Hall saw us enjoy an address by Mrs Michelle Carroll, School Principal and introduce the newly appointed Deputy Head of Barbreck Ms Catherine Samuel. Other School information was also shared and new staff members, Ms Alyssa Flint and Mr Luke Russell were introduced.

Thank you to all the parents who attended. Sound communication between home and school assists students to feel secure and comfortable in the learning environment. Essential indeed for effective learning.

Communication with School

Families are warmly encouraged to communicate with School personnel regarding any questions or concerns pertaining to your daughter(s). Please be aware that no question is too small. Also, we advise families to always communicate with us when a matter arises and not to wait for the gazetted Parent Teacher Interview dates. Matters are more effectively dealt with at the time they arise.

Barbreck Email Address

Please note that barbreck@stcatherines.net.au is now available for parents to email absentees and to relay any student information or messages. This email will be accessed by the Junior School Office.

Please note that emails containing urgent information eg. a change of after School or pick up arrangements, please contact the Barbreck Office. Teachers rarely have an opportunity to read emails during the day and especially, any which arrive late in the School day.

Teachers may be contacted by using the address containing their first initial and surname: eg msmith@stcatherines.net.au

The Student Record Book

This Record Book is a very useful means of conveying information to School. Students are required to bring them to School each day and to take them home each night.

Organisational Details

We hope that the following details outline some useful information for all Junior School families.

Absence from School – Absentee Line:  9828 3021

When a student is absent from School, parents are asked to call the Absentee Line 9828 3021 and leave a recorded message. Alternatively you can email absentees on barbreck@stcatherines.net.au.

Please do not leave the message elsewhere in the School or on another phone line. Absences are recorded in official School attendance records by 9.00am. This is important in order to ensure that the School is aware of the absence.

Class teachers appreciate emailed advice as well, but importantly the Student Absentee Line is the central information collection point.

The Absentee Line and Barbreck email address is accessed and, information noted by, Mrs Sharon Brinkworth or in her absence Mrs Mary Poulos early each morning.

Students Attendance Rolls

The School bell rings at 8.30am with students able to access classrooms from 8.10am.

In respect of the fact that many of our families are involved in drop off for other siblings at other Schools and varying traffic conditions, there is a flexible 10 minute time frame whereby 8.40am is acceptable as the latest arrival time.

Students arriving after 8.40am must report to the office and “Sign in” for the purposes of accuracy in attendance registers and also security. This is extremely vital or classrooms attendance rolls cannot be accurate. Class teachers send attendance records to the office at 8.45am.

Medication to be consumed at school?

Please note that if students are to be administered medicine of any kind at School during the day, an email/note to barbeck@stcatherines.net.au needs to be sent, or a hard copy to the Junior School Office. This needs to have authorisation and clear instructions.

Lunch Orders

A reminder that lunch orders must be placed on-line only at www.flexischools.com.au.

Please note:

  • Lunch orders must be placed before 9.00am on the day
  • Orders can be placed up to two weeks in advance
