The St Catherine's Sports and Aquatic Centre
St Catherine's has always placed a high value on the participation of our students in all areas of School life, and the broad sporting arena is one in which all our students have an opportunity to participate in many disciplines and at many levels. Indeed, the lasting memories of many of our past students' school days revolve around the sport, plays and performances of their time.
At a Glance - St Catherine's Sports and Aquatic Centre
- Six lane 25m pool with a 1m diving board, together with a learners' pool, allowing for training in swimming, diving, lifesaving, waterpolo and learn to swim lessons
- Flexible teaching spaces, including a multi-purpose training room with weights and ergo machines
- PE staff will be located in the complex
- Together with four all-weather courts on the Senior School Oval, the Centre will be the hub of sporting activities at St Catherine's School.
All of our building and planning initiatives are underpinned by our commitment to sustainability, and key environmental features of our new Centre will include:
- A design which aims to minimise the use of power for lighting and maximises use of light and space
- Double glazing of all areas to minimise heating and cooling needs and the level of noise to the School and our neighbours
- On the eastern face, automatic lift up doors for hot summer months which open onto a grassed area flanked by gingko trees between the ELC, St Catherine's Walk and the Centre
- Full coverage of solar panels on pool roof for water heating
- Large underground tanks under the grassed area.
